Win Defender -> Software Explorer missing?
Will there be a software explorer tool in Windows defender like there is in Vista, or has that been cut out? I am still using the RC, so I guess I'm asking if it is included in the RTM?

Thanks for the reply. Any particular reason that you know of, it seems kinda odd for Microsoft to remove a security feature

I only know, as you may know as well, that Microsoft Security Essentials is replacing both, Windows Defender and Windows Live OneCare. I'm guessing that some kind of similar functionality will be added to the Security Essentials.Regards.If it was helpful, please vote! Si te ayud, por favor vota! W7 RTM x64 running along with Office 2010 x64 TP MSE does not replace Windows Defender - it is an optional program (initially) intended for home users only. If it is installed, then it will disable Windows Defender since it duplicates key functions, but it is purely optional to install.MSE does, on the other hand, replace OneCare. Personally, my bet is the Software Explorer function was killed as part of the effort to streamline the Vista code. Most people I know never knew the function even existed, and I would not be surpised if thefocus groups suggested the same thing. I entirely agree it is an inconvenience for some but I doubt most will know it was ever there. Alternatively, perhaps there is some obscure little software company that threatened to sue them - seems to be happening a lot recently. Just my thoughts though....Stephen

Hello,in accordance with this thread, MSE will not uninstall any Defender program from the OS but... Q: Is Microsoft Security Essentials designed to replace Windows Defender? A: No but if you are running Microsoft Security Essentials, you do not need to run Windows Defender. Microsoft Security Essentials is designed to disable Windows Defender in order to manage the PCs real-time protection, including anti-virus, rootkits, Trojans and spyware. Q: Does installing Microsoft Security Essentials disable Windows Defender A: Currently Microsoft Security Essentials does not disable Windows Defender, but it should and will in a later version of the beta. http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/msestart/thread/5309cb8d-02e1-40e8-974f-0dcedb9ab9fdRegards.
